We’ve had a busy Bank holiday weekend but everyone seemed to enjoy themselves – mainly people either going to parties or visiting the Wirral rather than attending a wedding.
We’ve been shortlisted for some awards so lots of fingers crossed at the moment and awaiting our mystery shopper !
Donald got very confused when a guest visited recently who knew all about his new 4 wheel drive – he had never met her and so couldn’t understand why she knew so much about him ! (he obviously doesn’t read the blog ! ) When her husband asked where he’d bought it, he said “if you look in the Farmers Guardian ….. ” as if everyone obviously bought the Farmers Guardian.

As many of you know in addition to having Mere Brook House we have a farm on the opposite side of the village so my life is split between the farm and Mere Brook. The last two years have been hectic as a result of the renovation work at Mere Brook, and then getting ready for guests and of course running the farm so we have had hardly any holidays – so we decided that the last week in March we would reserve for a holiday. Eventually we got around to looking on the internet for places to go and came to the conclusion that every where abroad was forecasting rain, the only difference was if you went to Majorca it was cold rain as opposed to Thailand where it would be warm rain – so plan B came into play and we headed for the Lake District. Now when I say “we” I mean my car, Don’s new 4 wheel drive pickup (yes I know he has been unbelievably rude about people with 4 wheel drives for many years !), the cattle trailer and Oscar ! Yes there are definitely three in this marriage. During the day I went walking, Donald went riding and we met up for our evening meal ! The weather was perfect and we had a great break.
Mere Brook continues to develop, we have teamed up with Claremont farm and Brian Mellor to offer “field to fork” weekends – these involve a supper at Mere Brook on a Friday evening, farm walk across Claremont Farm with Andy Pimbley harvesting fruit or asparagus or vegetables on Saturday morning, tour of the farm shop, light lunch and then a cooking demo by Brian Mellor a Master Chef in the afternoon – then late afternoon return to Mere Brook for afternoon tea followed by an evening dinner prepared by Brian using some of the produce harvested earlier in the day – plus lots of chat and drink. We’ve got dates for these on three weekends and one mid week during the next few months – should be good fun.
We’ve also got two wedding receptions booked in, one in May and one in July – we did one last September which was a great success so looking forward to these, it is fun to be part of such special occasions but also a responsibility as we want the day to be enjoyed by everyone. I pointed out to one of the brides as she left recently, she must really enjoy the day (otherwise what’s the point !) and any problems are mine not hers !
well off to bed.
Will add to this shortly
take care
Lorna

Well at last I have got around to my blog, you understand at 50 + this is all a completely new experience but I thought it would be a good way of keeping in touch with our guests.
As many of you know we opened last June and so it seemed the right time to do this as we have had quite a lot of guests from all over the country. We seem to never stop learning and continue to develop Mere Brook House and gardens – we’ve had hosted of celebrations, some business meetings and many guests visiting friends, sightseeing or attending a local wedding – life is never dull !
Well as this is my test blog, I’ll continue later, but feel free to send us your news.
take care
Lorna
