Food and Food Events
Having lived on a farm all my life I have always been in an environment where good quality food has been important. My mother, an excellent cook always produced good wholesome meals and superb cakes - she still bakes every Friday even though she is now 90 years old. I am enjoying pinching some of her recipes and cooking traditional lunches for our business meetings, dinners for parties and baking cakes for all our guests.
Having spent many years in my former career supporting and promoting local and regional food and drink Mere Brook House has given me the opportunity to carry on this work in a very practical way. As a result you will find that we offer locally produced food whenever possible.
Breakfasts
Our breakfasts include a choice of
Cereals, porridge, fruit juice, yoghurts, cheese and fresh fruit
Dry cured bacon, pork sausage, black pudding, mushrooms and tomatoes with eggs either fried, scrambled or poached
Along with tea or fresh coffee, toast, honey, marmalade and jam
We take a pride in sourcing many of the breakfast ingredients locally – suppliers include Hamilton Clarke butchers at Neston, Wielden butchers at Bebbington and Claremont Farm Shop at Clatterbridge – and the honey is in fact Mere Brook Honey !
Business Lunches
We can offer a range of home made hot or cold buffets – some examples include
Roast ham and Coronation chicken served with green salad, tomatoes and mozzarella, coleslaw, new potatoes and fresh bread, followed by strawberry pavolva, cheese and biscuits, coffee and tea.
Mousaka served with salad, coleslaw and crusty bread followed by apple crumble, cheese and biscuits, coffee and tea.
Beef casserole served with roasted vegetables and mashed potatoes, followed by apple sponge and custard, cheese and biscuits, coffee and tea.
Salmon in hollandaise sauce served with new potatoes and seasonal vegetables followed by bread and butter pudding with cream, cheese and biscuits, coffee and tea.
Special celebrations
We have hosted a variety of eventsl – wedding breakfast, wedding parties, birthday parties and Xmas events – and can offer everything from a formal dinner prepared by Brian Mellor a master chef to a more informal traditional farmhouse style dinner or buffet prepared by myself.
Food Weekend – From Field to Fork
For you foodies Mere Brook House has teamed up with the well known Chef n Farmer team Brian Mellor and Andrew Pimbley from Claremont Farm to provide you with a truly unique and exciting weekend. You will arrive at Mere Brook on Friday afternoon or evening where you can enjoy the home made cakes, have a coffee or tea and make yourself comfortable in your bedroom. At seven o’clock you will join other guests for a drinks reception and meet the hosts of the weekend Lorna, Brian and Andrew who will join everyone for a buffet supper. After a hearty breakfast Andrew will meet guests and take them on a farm walk, visiting crops and discussing all stages of growth and aspects of harvesting and marketing the produce – and of course answer all your many questions. Your walk will end at lunch time at Claremont kitchen where sandwiches and drinks will be served before Brian demonstrates various ways of cooking and presenting some of the produce seen and harvested earlier and of course provides plenty of tastings. He will then demonstrate the preparation of various dishes some of which will provide the basis of your evening meal which will be served at Mere Brook in the evening. Throughout Brian will be explaining about the importance of local and regional foods and the relevance of seasonality in cooking. Late afternoon you will return to Mere Brook for afternoon tea and to chill before partaking in a three course evening meal prepared by Brian served in the impressive dining room followed by cheese and biscuits and coffee in the lounge where no doubt there will be more chat and questions for our experts.
