Mina organised for some of her closest family and friends to join her at Mere Brook on the weekend of the marriage of her son Paul to Lucy – as a pre wedding celebration she organised a meal here on the evening prior to the wedding. |

The Halls & Landings
The main reception area is a traditional hall with lots of character. This was the room that sold the house to Donald (although we also suspect that the fact the Yellow Iris bedroom overlooks Wirral Rugby Club’s fourth team pitch also contributed to the decision). It features a series of arches and traditional coving.
Dr Mc Gibbon and his wife Betty who purchased Mere Brook in 1949 progressively restored and repainted the house to as high a standard as possible in the light of post-war shortages. One of the improvements they made was to install the fireplace in the hall which had been a bedhead in Betty Mc Gibbon’s family home which as a child she had always been told it had belonged to Prince Llewelyn.
We have recently installed stain glasss into the windows either side of the fireplace. The design adopted has been chosen to reflect the name of the house and features yellow irises and dragon flies. Another recent addition has been a wood burning stove which makes the hall a welcoming place and guests can often be found chatting here late at night. |
