A popular activity at all times of the year is the walk across the sands at West Kirby to Hilbre Island from where grey seals can often be viewed resting on a nearby sand bank or swimming around the rocks on the incoming tide.
The islands designated as a site of Special Sceintific Interest are owned by Wirral Metropolitan Council who manage them as a Local Nature Reserve. When planning this walk account must be taken of the tides – a notice is displayed at the corner of the beach giving tide times or these can be obtained on www.pol.ac.uk.
