Hilbre Island

Hilbre IslandA popular activity at all times of the year is the walk across the sands at West Kirby to Hilbre Island from where grey seals can often be viewed resting on a nearby sand bank or swimming around the rocks on the incoming tide.

The islands designated as a site of Special Sceintific Interest are owned by Wirral Metropolitan Council who manage them as a Local Nature Reserve. When planning this walk account must be taken of the tides – a notice is displayed at the corner of the beach giving tide times or these can be obtained on www.pol.ac.uk.
