Parkgate

Park GateMy mother can remember being taken on days out as a child to Parkgate when it was a seaside resort but by the 1940s it the beach had become marsh due to the silting up of this part of the Dee estuary.

Parkgate is one of my favourite places and is well worth a visit for a walk along the front and to sample the locally made ice cream for which it is famous.

There are also four popular pubs along the front – at one end The Boat House with its conservatory overlooking the marshes, at the other end The Quay popular with families and in between The Red Lion and The Ship.

All the pubs serve food but there are also two excellent restaurants Mr Chow and The Marsh Cat.
