Thornton Hough

The nearest village to Mere Brook House is the very picturesque Thornton Hough – this really is a “picture postcard” village with its traditional green surrounded by cottages, a village shop, blacksmith, village school, two churches and in the centre the Seven Stars pub.

On the outskirts of the village there is Thornton Hall Hotel which has a café and restaurant open to non residents and The Grange a restaurant and nightclub.

If you go down the road directly opposite the Seven Stars you will come to Thornton Manor which was the home of William Hesketh Leverhulme who came to the Wirral in 1887 to begin soap manufacture at Port Sunlight.

The Manor is now privately owned and hosts weddings, corporate functions and celebrity events including the recent 21st of Colleen, wife of Wayne Rooney which was featured in Hello magazine.
