Weddings and Celebrations at Mere Brook House

There are several ways in which Mere Brook House has become involved in making a wedding a truly memorable experience.

The Bride and Groom

When choosing the furniture and colours for the Balcony room I always had in mind that this would make a wonderful bridal suite and I am thrilled that we have had several bride and grooms choose this room – we suggest you bring some of your belongings prior to the wedding and we will give you a key so you can arrive whenever it is convenient and as we don’t have set breakfast times you don’t have to rush up the next day !

Lorna & Donald, Thank you so much for having us on the night of our wedding. The house is beautiful and we would recommend anyone to come and stay and we will certainly be coming back !” Kathryn & Gareth

Wedding Guests

We regularly have guests choosing to stay at Mere Brook who are attending a day or evening reception locally – our proximity to Thornton Manor, Thornton Hall Hotel, The Grange and Ness Gardens makes us a popular choice, although we have also had guests attending weddings at other venues such as Hillbark.

We encourage guests to arrive early so they can have a drink and some homemade cakes and chill a little before getting changed into their posh outfits. We often give guests a lift to the wedding so they can leave their car at Mere Brook and return by taxi, avoiding any worries about drinking and driving.

Many thanks for a lovely stay, the house is beautiful and the hospitality second to none, we’re only sorry it was only for one night !” Don, Jackie and Kay (on the occasion of Kay’s son whose wedding was at Thornton Manor)

The Wedding

Mere Brook House is ideal for that small intimate wedding with its spacious gardens, large patio, grand entrance hall, elegant dining room and wonderful lounges. Depending on the size of your party you can all sit around the impressive dining table for a formal meal or for a larger number or a more relaxed atmosphere a buffet can be served.

Our arrival at Mere Brook House was lovely. The three piece orchestra playing was a lovely addition and the rooms are second to none and absolute luxury with lots of lovely little touches. We initially enjoyed the fine weather to its maximum as the two families mixed and got to know each other. The lovely terrace was great for a party of our size and once the sun went down the garden room just in from the terrace was ideal. The dinner settings were again ideal and we enjoyed the food. The service we received from you, Don, your lads and all the staff was first class. Absolutely nothing was too much trouble. We had the best time possible and it exceeded all our expectations. Ellie loved the day from start to finish which is magic”  Simon

As we do not have a license for weddings on our premises you may want to consider Ness gardens for the wedding service – www.nessgardens.org.uk

Bride and Groom’s Wedding groups

Mere Brook House is just perfect for the bride or groom to stay with their family and close friends during and after their wedding.

There was great excitement recently as we had our first bride leave with her father from Mere Brook to go to the wedding – the bride and her parents arrived on Friday afternoon along with the chief bridesmaid and some other guests, everyone sat around the log fire and enjoyed the continuous supply of refreshments, later the men went for a drink with the groom and the girls watched a DVD, drank champagne and let the beautician perform her magic! On Saturday morning the house was alive, the bride and guests were having their hair done, the bride’s father visited the reception venue, more bridesmaids arrived, the flowers came and all partook in food and drink ad lib. The photographer arrived and took pictures of the bride coming down the impressive stairs as well as with her bridesmaids on the antique settee in the garden room and outside in the gardens. Once the rest of the party left for the reception the bride and her father had chance for a few quiet moments sat together in front of the log fire until the car returned and took them off for this very special event.

Following a wonderful service and reception at The Grange in Thornton Hough the wedding party returned to Mere Brook including the newly married groom !

The next day the bride and groom hosted a lunch for 35 of their friends and family at Mere Brook which provided a perfect finish to a marvellous wedding.

Lorna and Donald, Thank you so much for making our stay so enjoyable and memorable. We have loved every minute and feel very spoilt. Staying at Mere Brook House has made our wedding – it’s truly a luxury dream home from home – with more than the trimmings! We will be back soon! Thanks again and best wishes”
Mike and Susanne, the new Mr & Mrs Davies”

g “What an absolutely fantastic weekend we had with you and Donald on the very special visit last week. It certainly lived up to all my expectations when I visited you earlier this year and realised what very special people you are and how you take such pride in sharing your beautiful home with everyone who has the good fortune to find you. You certainly go above and beyond the call of duty and deserve every success in your venture

You can either just relax, read and eat the homemade cakes or the more active members can do some shopping, walk along the beach or visit local attractions. In the evening you can all catch up with each other with drinks and canapés served around the log fire followed by an evening meal in the elegant dining room before moving to the garden room for coffee, chocolates, more drinks and games before retiring upstairs to the luxurious bedrooms.

Dear Lorna and Donald, What a wonderful house ! We had a fantastic time, it was a perfect way to conclude our wedding celebrations ! Thank you so much for your kind hospitality” Midori and Tim (a bride and groom who had a wonderful wedding day at Hillbark on a Friday and then spent Saturday and Sunday at Mere Brook with close family and friends)

g “Thank you to you and your family for a fantastic weekend. I know that people in your line of work always like praise but also prefer the customer to make any complaints or suggestions for improvements to you rather than go away and moan to other people, well try as I might I cannot for the life of me think of any way that you could have improved that weekend ( other than to arrange perfect weather and I assume that will be in your plans for the future). Thank you once again”
